Slack & Parr expands its Technical and Industrial pump ranges

Whilst the markets for Spandex and Specialist fibres remain positive, the over expansion particularly in PET filament projects over the past few years means the market remains much slower overall. During this ongoing slow period Slack & Parr have investigated new possibilities and expanded their Gear metering pump ranges particularly in the areas of  Technical fibres and Industrial applications. We also notice more Fibre customers have converted machines to small batch, short run and niche fibres to find new opportunities.

More new Gear Metering pumps have been developed for specific individual customers requirements rather than the standard products supplied previously in volume. Technical yarns and Industrial applications require a higher technical integrity and Slack & Parr’s Engineering and R&D departments are able to use all the latest engineering tools, including CAD, FEA modelling, flow analysis and bespoke software to provide accurate performance and efficiency data.

More pump features require close engineering detail :-

  • Refined gear geometry for reduced pulsation
  • Gear Tooth profile  – tooth sealing - ‘port to port’ and gear backlash.
  • Pump Material selection and surface treatments.
  • Tighter Critical dimensions
  • Port geometry, surface finish and diameters.
  • Lubrication features and selective trapping release groove positioning and dimensions
  • Considerations for high pressure applications.

These critical features require the latest modern manufacturing techniques and machinery supported by the latest inspection machines.

As the Fibre market becomes even more competitive customers are looking beyond the initial gear pump purchases and are now requesting repair contracts and spares support which Slack and Parr can offer from its facilities in Europe, China and the USA, all of which can accept Booster, Process, Spinning and Spin finish pumps.
